“The UFC Paid Me a 200k Purse” – Miesha Tate Clarifies Her Recent Comments on Pay and Earnings

A few days ago, Miesha Tate made some shocking comments regarding her fight purse for her UFC comeback. Those comments resulted in the entire MMA community being astounded. However, recently, ‘Cupcake’ clarified why she said what she said.

At UFC Vegas 31, Tate claimed a spectacular third-round TKO victory in her fight against Marion Reneau. This magnificent victory also earned her the ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus, a sum of $50,000. As a result, she made a large sum of $261,000, as per The Sports Daily

However, in one of the recent episodes of the ‘MMA on SiriusXM’ podcast, Tate revealed how she was left with nothing after her expenses. ‘Cupcake’ claimed that at least 98% of her fight purse was gone after factoring at every expense. Thus, the entire MMA community was left startled.

Recently, Tate made a post on her official Instagram handle to clarify her comments regarding her fight purse and expense.

‘Cupcake’ said – “To clarify, I spent ridiculous amounts of money on myself to look & feel incredible for my comeback fight. The UFC paid me a 200k purse, how I choose to spend that is up to me. Between taxes, percentages, donations & training expenses it’s true I spent A LOT.”

“Some fighters don’t spend that much, some fighters cut the corners too, champions don’t. How I choose to spend my money is really not for anyone else to worry about. I would spend it all to become a champion again. I’m grateful I had money to spend in the first place. I’m the happiest I have ever been.”

Who will Miesha Tate fight in her next fight?

After defeating Marion Reneau, Tate now holds the eighth position in the UFC women’s bantamweight rankings. So, fans might probably witness her going up against any of the top 10 contenders in the division. However, there has not yet been any official announcement on who will ‘Cupcake’ fight in her next fight.

Regardless, UFC fans know Tate is open to having a rematch against Holly Holm, which she revealed in the UFC Vegas 31 post-fight press conference. Tate and Holly Holm clashed at UFC 196 back in March 2016.

After four rounds of total domination on Holm’s part, Tate upset then-UFC bantamweight champion, Holly Holm. ‘Cupcake’ turned the tide in the fifth round and won the title via submission (rear-naked choke) victory.

Tate vs. Holm 2 will be one of the greatest rematches in the UFC women’s bantamweight history.
