The Walking Dead has had viewers gripped for 11 years with its apocalyptic zombie action and antics.

And season 11 is tipped to be just as thrilling with more gruesome battles between the living and the dead as they go on a mission to confront the Reapers.

Fans of the show will also discover what awaits characters including Maggie Greene (Lauren Cohan), Negan Smith (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus).

Will this season, airing on Star on Disney Plus from Monday August 23, be the last one?

Is season 11 the final series of The Walking Dead?

Disappointingly for fans, season 11 will be the final series of The Walking Dead.

However, you still have 24 episodes to look forward to before bidding farewell to the show and its cast.

The AMC show’s Chief Content Officer, Scott Gimple, said in a statement: ‘It’s been 10 years ‘gone bye’ what lies ahead are two more to come and stories and stories to tell beyond that.’

However, it’s not all bad news as showmakers have promised a few spin-off series.

Gimple added: ‘We have a lot of thrilling story left to tell on TWD, and then, this end will be a beginning of more Walking Dead— brand new stories and characters, familiar faces and places, new voices, and new mythologies. This will be a grand finale that will lead to new premieres.’

Though, before you get your hopes up, in a YouTube video for IMDb, Norman Reedus revealed that it won’t be what you’re used to from the show.

He said: ‘I can’t tell you a whole lot about the spin-off. I can tell you that it won’t look anything like The Walking Dead. It won’t look like an episode of Walking Dead with just Daryl and Carol. It’ll be completely different.’

When will the final series of TWD end?

The final season will also be split into two parts, the first airing in 2021, from August 23, and the other half airing in 2022.

It is predicted that the final episodes will take fans all the way to the end of ’22, so there’s a while until the zombie action draws to a close.

With The Walking Dead’s executive producer Denise Huth promising the show to ‘go out with a bang’, you’re going to have plenty to look forward to.

The Walking Dead airs from Monday 23 August on Star on Disney Plus.
