DaBaby returned to the stage for the first time since coming under fire for making homophobic comments.

The 29-year-old sparked outrage with remarks made on stage during his set on July 25, with the Rockstar rapper saying: ‘If you didn’t show up today with HIV, Aids, any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that’ll make you die in two to three weeks, put your cellphone light up. Ladies, if your p***y smell like water, put a cellphone light up. Fellas, if you ain’t sucking d*** in the parking lot, put your cellphone lights in the air.’

He faced criticism from fans and celebrities including Sir Elton John and Dua Lipa and multiple festivals, such as Austin City Limits and Lollapalooza, dropped him from their lineup.

DaBaby reportedly addressed his comments in a prerecorded message at Hot 97’s Summer Jam 2021 in New Jersey at the weekend, with video circulating on social media of the star thanking the organisers who ‘allowed me to share my gift, share my blessing with y’all out here live on this stage amongst all the chaos and all the backlash. So hats off to y’all for that.

‘They accepted my sincerity and all my apologies when I said I never, ever meant to offend anybody or say anything to make anybody feel any type of way live on that stage a few weeks ago.’

He added that Hot 97 ‘helped the world move forward and become a better place and not dismiss people off mistakes made like we ain’t human.’

The musician, real name Jonathan Kirk, then kicked off his Megan Thee Stallion collaboration Cry Baby at the MetLife Stadium, during which he reportedly told the crowd: ‘Check this out. Other than the people that, you know, was truly offended, I feel like the rest of y’all motherf**kers being cry babies.’

The rapper shared a lengthy apology on his Instagram admitting he was ‘misinformed’ about HIV and Aids, but later removed it.

The statement had read: ‘Social Media moves so fast that people want to demolish you before you even have the opportunity to grow, educate, and learn from your mistakes.

‘As a man who has had to make his own way from very difficult circumstances, having people I know publicly working against me — knowing that what I needed was education on these topics and guidance — has been challenging.

‘I appreciate the many people who came to me with kindness, who reached out to me privately to offer wisdom, education, and resources. That’s what I needed and it was received.

‘I want to apologise to the LGBTQ+ community for the hurtful and triggering comments I made. Again, I apologise for my misinformed comments about HIV/AIDS and I knew education on this is important. Love to all. God bless.’

The musician is set to appear next at the Boosie Bash festival in Louisiana on August 28.
