Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga update promised for Gamescom

After months of silence, fans can look forward to a new premiere of Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga at Gamescom.
Like the movies themselves, the Lego Star Wars games can disappear for long periods of time but they always come back in the end – and that’s finally true of the long-awaited Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.
Despite being announced back in 2019, the game’s release has suffered from delays and even news updates have been drier than a Tatooine summer for the last several months.
Thankfully the dry spell is almost over, as the game will be making an appearance as part of Gamescom’s opening night event, according to host Geoff Keighley.
He shared the news recently over Twitter, promising a world premiere new look. Hopefully this will include a new release date, although don’t be surprised if it misses this year and doesn’t come out until 2022.
The Gamescom Opening Night Live event is scheduled to start at 7pm BST on Wednesday, August 25 and is expected to host several other announcements, including what sounds like a Saints Row reboot.
As a reminder, The Skywalker Saga adapts all nine major Star Wars movies. The first seven have already been covered in previous Lego Star Wars games, but this one will feature brand new levels rather than just port over the originals and cover the events of The Last Jedi and The Rise Of Skywalker for the first time.
Other Star Wars movies and shows, including The Mandalorian, will also make cameos in the game, either from launch or via DLC.

It’s certainly not the only Star Wars game fans are anticipating at the moment. For starters, a sequel to EA’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is all but confirmed, and Ubisoft is working on an open world Star Wars project of its own.
It’s very unlikely that either of these games will be mentioned during Gamescom, as EA has already said that it’s not announcing any new Star Wars games until 2022.
The Star Wars Celebration convention for 2022 is currently scheduled to run from May 26 to May 29, so that’s likely the most likely venue for the next Star Wars game announcements.
Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is in development for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
