Love Island 2021: Fans left confused as islanders go ‘missing’ for Aftersun ‘Where are they?’

Love Island Aftersun was presented live in Majorca Laura Whitmore on Sunday night, but some of those watching wondered how the episode was filmed without the presence of any of the show’s contestants.

The ITV2 hit series comes to an end this evening, where one of the four remaining couples will be crowned the winners.

Last night, host Laura was joined by a panel of guests on Aftersun to talk through what they’d just witnessed in the hour of TV.

But with the show coming live from the Majorcan villa, viewers were left baffled as none of the eight remaining islanders were around.

Some of those watching took to Twitter to question where they had got to during filming.

One asked: ‘If they’re filming Aftersun in the villa then where are the islanders? Just tuned in soz x #LoveIsland #aftersun.’

‘I want to know where the Islanders are whilst Laura and everyone is in the villa live for Aftersun… #LoveIsland #LoveIslandAftersun.’ questioned another.

A third wrote: ‘Where are the islanders whilst they are filming #LoveIslandAftersun???’

‘I want to know where the Islanders are whilst Laura and everyone is in the villa live for Aftersun… #LoveIsland #LoveIslandAftersun,’ added a fourth.

Another fan joked: ‘They really got Aftersun outside the villa. They’re probably disturbing that islanders sleep.’

Many viewers quickly offered up a possible explanation the instalment had instead been shot in the Casa Amor villa, which is nearby to the official residence of the islanders.

But the show was filmed in the villa, as host Laura referenced several times.

Metro.co.uk understands the islanders were in a different part of the villa whilst filming was taking place.

Love Island: Jake and Liberty appeared together live from Majorca on Aftersun (Picture: ITV)

Previous contestants Jake Cornish and Liberty Poole, who left the show on Friday, joined Laura.

The pair decided to voluntarily leave together after they’d decided to end their relationship, in order to free their spot if they were to make the final.

Fans tuned into the interview which was soon dubbed awkward as Jake was shown scenes of Liberty breaking down over their rocky relationship.

After watching the clip, Jake was visibly upset over how he had made Liberty feel.

He told Laura: ‘Not nice to see her like that – that’s because of me.’

Laura went on to ask the duo if they would be prepared to stay friends, which they agreed they would.

They also didn’t rule out possibly rekindling their romance further down the line.

Love Island airs at 9pm on ITV2.
