Love Island 2021 stars Mary Bedford and Aaron Simpson may already be over before they began as she appears to have put him firmly in the friend zone.

The pair struck up a romance in the villa after Mary was ditched by Toby Aromolaran when they returned from Casa Amor, and Aaron later entered as a bombshell.

They seemed to be immediately smitten with each other, regularly putting on PDA and even discussing the ‘cute’ babies they’d have.

Last week, Aaron was even seen blowing up at Kaz Kamwi for choosing him and Mary as one of the least compatible couples in the villa, before they were voted off the show.

However, it seems the romance may be fizzling out for Aaron and Mary already.

The pair appeared on Love Island: Aftersun on Sunday night where Laura Whitmore pressed them on what’s next for their relationship.

Mary said: ‘I think we’re just gonna go home, when we’re back in the real world again and things are more normal we’re going to see how it goes, but I have definitely made a best friend in here.’

When Laura asked about a romantic connection, Mary replied: ‘We’ll see how it goes.’

Still, she seems to be on great terms with Aaron who kept his hand firmly on her lap. The footballer also recalled his experience with Mary on the series and said: ‘I knew my head was firmly on Mary and it was a whirlwind experience.’

The islanders narrowly missed out on a spot in the finale with Millie Court and Liam Reardon; Kaz and Tyler Cruickshank; Faye Winter and Teddy Soares; and Toby and Chloe Burrows, sailing through to tonight’s grand closing.

After being dumped, Mary said of her romance with Aaron: ‘It’s still proper early days for us. Even though it’s only been 10 days it feels like we’ve been seeing each other for months.

‘We said we’re definitely going to give it a go on the outside. Obviously everything changes when you get out so we said we’re just going to cross each bridge as it comes to it. We’re definitely going to see each other on the outside.’

Love Island’s final airs tonight at 9pm on ITV.
