“Maybe It Wasn’t the Right One…” – Daniel Ricciardo Responds to Criticism of His Questionable F1 Moves

McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo is one of the best drivers in the sport. He is a 7-time race winner with Red Bull but has been struggling lately. Ricciardo moved from Renault to McLaren after an impressive 2020 season. But his move to the Woking-based team has been more difficult than he had imagined.

Although he has put in some stellar performances, his teammate Lando Norris has beaten comprehensively him. Many have questioned and criticized the Australian on his performances. But Daniel mentions that criticism is a part of the sport.

You have to just totally back yourself: Daniel Ricciardo

As reported by Bandt. co.au, In his interview with Optus, Riccardo mentioned that you have to always believe in yourself despite the criticism. He also stated that one should always learn from their mistakes.

“I think that no matter what industry you’re in, there are always going to be people who would do things differently to you,” said Daniel.

“You have to just totally back yourself and know you made that decision at that moment based on a lot of training and knowledge, and if maybe it wasn’t the right one, well, you’ll at least learn from it,” said the McLaren driver.

The Mclaren driver voices his opinion on not winning races regularly

Daniel Ricciardo is currently driving for McLaren, who are fighting for P3 in the championship. They might fight for podiums, but they can only win races if the front runners crash. Ricciardo mentions this is the aspect of the sport which is not in his control.

It’s just the way the sport works and not much I can do about it. I actually like that it’s a team effort–it sort of makes you feel like you’re really a part of something and you want everyone to do well, so it creates a good team mentality,” said Ricciardo.

Ricciardo is currently P9 in the standings with 50 points and hopes for a better second half of 2021.
