“Someone Who Shares the Same Goals”: Elina Svitolina Shares How Relationship With Gael Monfils is Paying-Off

As far as power couples in tennis go, Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils are right up there. Having tied the knot in July 2021, the stars are leading a happy married life. After somewhat losing their touch midway, both players seem to have rediscovered their form. And now, the pair is set to feature in the first episode of a new program. With the ATP and WTA collaborating together, the show channels the lives of players on both tours.

Svitolina-Monfils pairing to open ‘Tennis United: CrossCourt’

In the hampered 2020 season, the two tours announced an integrated digital series called CrossCourt. The program would showcase up close and personal conversations with players on the ATP and WTA circuits. The award-winning series now makes a return in 2021, after being widely applauded last year. Opening the season will be the duo of Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils. The duo will discuss a range of subjects, right from their tennis careers to married life.

In a sneak peek of the first episode, Svitolina talks about the comfort of having a spouse who is also in the same field. She says, “I think we are quite lucky that you [Monfils] are also a tennis player. We can be there for each other. [It is helpful] Having someone who is in the highest level who understands, and who shares the same goals with you.” The episode is set to release on the 25th of August on YouTube, as well as ATP/WTA websites.

The duo of Svitolina and Monfils have had a wonderful start to their new journey, finding their groove on the tennis court. World No.6 Svitolina had a brilliant campaign in Tokyo at the 2021 Olympic Games. She managed to capture the bronze medal, and was playing at a very high level. The Ukrainian will now take part in the Chicago Women’s Open, before heading to New York for the US Open.

As far as the Frenchman is concerned, the beginning of the year offered little ray of hope. Monfils saw a dip in rankings, and failed to make it past the second round in any of the Slams this year. After Wimbledon however, the World No.20 rediscovered his lost touch. He reached the quarterfinals in the National Bank Open, before narrowly losing out to eventual finalist Andrey Rublev in the last-16 at Cincinnati. The rich vein of form will provide hope for the French entertainer ahead of the final major of the season.

Fans will be waiting for the brand new digital series to release as soon as possible. With other superstars such as Dominic Thiem, Belinda Bencic, Andrey Rublev and Aryna Sabalenka also set to make appearances, there is no doubt that the show will mesmerize one and all!
