The Wiggles have added four new members in a bid to become more diverse.

The children’s entertainers have expanded the group by welcoming Evie Ferris, Kelly Hamilton, John Pearce and Tsehay Hawkins.

They join existing members Anthony Field, Lachlan Gillespie, Simon Pryce and Emma Watkins and will play a major part in the new series Fruit Salad TV.

It will premiere next month on the band’s YouTube channel and will focus on inclusivity, News Corp reports.

The new members bring their own set of talents to the group. Award-winning Ethiopian dancer Tsehay joins alongside Evie, a Taribelang woman from central Queensland who was formerly in The Australian Ballet.

They’re joined by John, who is of Australian and Filipino descent, and known for his work with band The Justice Crew. Kelly, who is of Australian and Chinese heritage, has previously performed in shows like Sesame Street.

They’re not the only newcomers to the series. The group is also introducing a dancing police officer, Officer Beaples, as well as non-binary unicorn Shirley Shawn, and Bok the hand puppet.

Blue Wiggle Anthony Field, said in a statement: ‘The Wiggles were created during a time when early childhood educational concepts were the focus.

‘As society has evolved, we have embraced the need for diversity and inclusiveness and want children all over the world to see themselves reflected on the screen.

‘It’s so important that The Wiggles continue to evolve along with our society. This is the first step towards shaping The Wiggles for the next 30 years, taking us in a direction that truly represents and serves our community more inclusively.

He added: ‘We are excited for the next chapter in The Wiggles’ history which will start with Fruit Salad TV and continue on with our other content and our live shows.

‘We can’t wait to introduce our amazing new line-up of incredibly talented performers to children in Australia and around the world.’

The Australian band The Wiggles formed back in 1991. Member Anothony, 58, is the only remaining original musician in the group.

It comes after Anthony was forced to deny his own death on Monday after it stated on Wikipedia he had died.

The Australian children’s performer, 58, posted a screen shot of the entry of the online encyclopedia, which claimed he died on Sunday August 15 2020.

Fruit Salad TV will be available to watch on September 4.
