Katie Price sailed through to the Celebrity MasterChef quarter-finals this evening, as Melissa Johns was axed from the competition.

The 43-year-old delighted judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace in all three rounds, and booked herself a place in the next stage with Dion Dublin and Joe Swash.

In the first of the tests, the mum-of-five was asked to identify mystery tropical fruits before whipping up a corn fritter, smashed avocado and a poached egg.

Nailing this, she was then tasked with making a dish from Sabrina Gidda’s own recipes, with the guest chef stating: ‘You should be so proud of that, because it’s really excellent’.

John and Gregg clearly agreed, with the latter branding her dish ‘fantastic’.

While her third offering, a meal inspired by a restaurant delivery, didn’t quite live up to expectations, the judges weren’t about to let her go.

Speaking after being sent through to the quarter-finals, where she will have to cook dishes for former Celebrity MasterChef stars, Katie enthused: ‘I am so happy and it’s an achievement, so pat on the back for Kate. Pricey!’

However, while the reality star had a great time of it in the kitchen, the same can’t be said for Melissa, who was booted out after a tense few rounds.

Unfortunately, the Coronation Street star struggled and dished up ‘gluggy and hard’ rice, overcooked chicken and ‘heavy’ bread.

The judges decided to send her packing, with the actress explaining she had the ‘best time’ taking part.

‘I will look back on my MasterChef experience with a huge smile on my face,’ she said of her exit.

‘I’ve had the best time, and it was my time to go.’

Vicky Pattinson, John Partridge and Sophie Thompson will be critiquing Joe, Katie and Dion in the next round, with the trio hoping to make it through to the upcoming semi-finals.

Celebrity MasterChef continues on Friday, at 9pm, on BBC One.
