The official teaser trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home has been released, and Doctor Octopus and Green Goblin are back from the dead.

Don’t you just hate it when that happens?

A day after the teaser leaked online, Sony officially unveiled the trailer at CinemaCon on Monday night, with studio boss Tom Rothman saying: ‘It deserves to be seen in the high quality finished form in which it was made.’

And it was most definitely worth the wait, as the trailer adds weight to the theory that previous Peter Parkers, played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, could feature.

After J. Jonah Jameson revealed Spider-Man’s true identity at the end of 2019’s Far From Home, Peter (Tom Holland) is left dealing with the whole world knowing he is inside that suit, and believing he is responsible for the death of Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal).

As his friends and family get dragged into the mess, Peter is struggling and just wants to focus on his newfound relationship with MJ (Zendaya), so approaches Doctor Steven Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to cast a spell to stop anyone from knowing his secret.

However, at the last minute, he decides he wants MJ, his best mate Ned (Jacob Batalon) and Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) to know, and messes with the delicate nature of the spell, resulting in him tampering with the stability of space and time.

This leads to the multiverse rearing its ugly head, with Doc Ock – played by Alfred Molina – being revived, despite dying in Spider-Man 2.

While we knew that Molina had signed on to the film, we can’t lie, seeing those steel tentacles come out of the ground got us very excited for December.

We also hear the menacing voice of Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), who died in the original Spider-Man, with one of his signature bombs rolling along the ground.

It was previously rumoured that Maguire and Garfield, who previously played Peter Parker in the Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man films respectively, would be appearing in No Way Home, alongside previous MJ Kirsten Dunst and Emma Stone, who played Gwen Stacy.

These rumours have been met by denials, but this confirmation of the multiverse plot does nothing to dispel the speculation.

It has already been confirmed that in addition to Doc Ock and Green Goblin, Jamie Foxx is back to play Electro, reprising his role from The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

More: Spider-man

This is believed to be Tom Holland’s last outing as Spidey, following a clash between Sony and Marvel over the character.

No Way Home is in cinemas on December 17.
