“Everyone Said He Would Knock Me Out”: Yordenis Ugas Vents Out His Emotions After Win Over Manny Pacquiao

Yordenis Ugas silenced a lot of critics by beating Manny Pacquiao with a lopsided unanimous decision, retaining his WBA welterweight title. He was an underdog at odds but looked completely different inside the ring. Although Pacquiao had his few months in the bout, it was clearly Ugas’ night as he left no doubts on the scrap.

Following the victory, ’54 Milagros’ expressed interest in facing WBC-IBF champion Errol Spence Jr. However, he also left a message for Pacquiao and everyone who had doubted his prowess. The Cuban star expressed his respect for Pacquiao before touting his superiority on social media.

That said, the champion has all the reasons for boasting his win. He beat an all-time legend in the biggest fight of his career and is now a top-tier name in the 147 lbs roster. Thus, his social media post rightly reflects that aura.

Yordenis Ugas wrote, “Incredible my first defense against a legend Manny Pacquiao. Everyone said he would knock me out, tear me apart because of his speed. However, I always said that I was not a favorite but I came to compete. Not for a check. I am a warrior. Thanks to all the fans.”

27-4 as a pro, Ugas wasn’t able to crack it to the absolute top of the division for several reasons. Errol Spence Jr. and Terce Crawford had gulped all the glory as 147 lbs champions and they never seemed serious about facing Yordenis Ugas.

However, a win against Manny Pacquiao has really turned heads towards the Cuban prodigy. So, Ugas can now opt to face the kingpins of his division and cement his legacy by unifying the titles.

What’s next for Yordenis Ugas?

Manny Pacquiao might have fought his last professional fight. So, it leaves Errol Spence Jr. and Yordenis Ugas locked in for a potential in-ring battle. Besides, Shakur Stevenson’s surging rise can also bring him into the mix. The welterweight division has a lot to offer and Ugas will have to constantly prove his worth.

Once Terence Crawford and Shawn Porter finalize the WBO welterweight title fight, it will also clear the picture of the championship ride. Thus, Ugas can now relish his first title defense and wait to see how things play out in the particular weight class.
