Law and Order’s Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni tease fans with steamy near-kiss snap

Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni nearly broke the internet over the weekend after sharing a steamy photo online.

The Law & Order: Special Victims Unit actress, 57, and her former co-star, 60, made it clear they keep an eye out on what the fans are saying after getting up close and personal in the snap.

Posted on the Law & Order: Organized Crime actor’s Twitter account, the duo were dressed in character as detectives Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson in the cheeky image.

The pair’s characters were detective partners from 12 seasons on Law & Order: SVU before Meloni left the series in 2011, and fans have always wanted the characters to still somehow get together.

Indeed, over the weekend one Twitter user posted photos showing Meloni and Hargitay on set in a scene where they were about to embrace.

They wrote: ‘Can y’all imagine if one day @Chris_Meloni and @Mariska posts a picture like this pretending they are kissing with the caption #Rehearsing. It would be the end of us and the end of the internet.’

It didn’t take long for Meloni and Hargitay to made dreams come true as they posed together for the exact photo.

‘#rehearsing what @Mariska?’ Meloni captioned the flirtatious pic, before Hargitay retweeted it and commented: ‘Are you blushing? it’s getting hot in here @Chris_Meloni’.

Stabler and Benson, who have never been romantic on the show, recently reunited for the spinoff series, Organized Crime, where Meloni’s character runs the New York Police Department.

Plenty of crossovers have happened in the past and the duo have teamed more to come in the upcoming season, airing in September.

As far as off-screen love, Hargitay has been married to SVU co-star Peter Hermann since 2004.

Meloni has been married to Doris Sherman Williams since 1995.
