Love Island has seen some epic moments over the years, but, for a hot second, fans were convinced that this year’s final had given us our first ever marriage proposal.

Truly, no one was ready.

Liam Reardon and Millie Court already made history as the first ever bombshell winners, and had made things official after he asked her to be his girlfriend.

However, many thought the pair were already about to very rapidly take the next step.

‘I thought Liam was going to propose marriage for some reason,’ one fan admitted, while another added: ‘Sorry did Liam just propose?’

‘Did Liam just propose to Millie or am I trippin? Like I genuinely don’t know wtf just happened,’ another pointed out, while one more said: ‘WHY DID I THINK LIAM WAS ABOUT TO PROPOSE’.

While Liam didn’t quite get down on one knee, he and the other islanders shared declarations of love before the winners were announced.

Speaking to Millie, he said: ‘The moment I laid eyes upon you, wearing a bright pink swimsuit, piercing blue eyes, which I immediately got lost in, and the pefect mouth and nose, all of which contributed to your beautiful face which I sometimes think has been crafted from the heavens.

‘Days went on and our connection grew and grew until we shared our first kiss on the swing seats. That kiss was special, as if we were two teenagers locking lips for the first time. I then had a challenge thrown my way and I was so sorry for what I had done.

‘Seeing you distraught was so hard to experience and I knew I never wanted to make you feel that way ever again. We now have a new journey to venture into, life outside the villa, and I can bring my lovely Essex girl down to Merthyr Tydfil.

‘Our hearts are like two magnets constantly drawn to each other. Babe, I’m absolutely in love with you, and I can’t wait to treat you like the princess that you are.’

Despite being crowned the winners, Liam and Millie definitely haven’t had the easiest journey.

While in Casa Amor, Liam got close to Lillie Haynes, with the bombshell telling Millie everything afterwards.

However, he’s now insisted he would have told Millie everything, even if Lillie hadn’t got there first.

During their chat with Laura Whitmore, Millie admitted that she was ‘prepared for him to come back with someone else’, before finding out that ‘the worst’ had occurred behind her back.

When Laura acknowledged that Liam ‘didn’t really have much of a chance to talk to Millie after coming back from Casa Amor’, the presenter asked what his plan would have been if Lillie hadn’t made her shock entrance.

‘Immediately after the firepit, I would have pulled Millie straight away and told her everything straight away,’ he replied.

Liam added that the situation was ‘probably made a lot worse’ when Lillie appeared, describing the turn of events as ‘not ideal’.

Love Island is available for catch-up on the ITV Hub.
