Beyonce and Jay Z have come under fire for their Tiffany & Co campaign, but her mother Tina Knowles isn’t having it.

The music super couple made waves as they posed together for the jewelry brand’s About Love campaign, which saw Bey become the fourth woman to ever wear the brand’s iconic Yellow Diamond necklace.

In fact, the singer is the first Black woman to wear the priceless gem and the couple got Tiffany to donate $2million (£1.4million) to Historically Black Colleges and Universities as part of their involvement in the campaign.

However, some fans have taken issue with the singer’s decision to work with the company amid ongoing scandals about blood diamonds and the exploitation of African workers.

As backlash began to mount on social media, The Grio posted several comments calling out the pair on Instagram, leading Beyonce’s mom to jump to the couple’s defense.

The 67-year-old clapped back in the comments: ‘How many of you socially conscious activist own diamonds ? I thought so ! Well guess what did you go to try to check to see where the diamond came from? Probably not !

Tina Knowles responded to a post highlighting criticism that had been shared online (Picture: Instagram)

‘So when you guys get engaged you won’t have a diamond you gonna put on a sterling silver band. (sic)’

She continued: ‘And you better check out where it came from and the origin of where came from and why you add it check out the calls for the Leather that you weird because they made it came from another country to to ban and not buy diamonds right because your righteous !! (sic)’.

The 128.54 carat Tiffany Yellow Diamond, one of the largest yellow diamonds ever discovered at 284 carats in its rough form, was mined in South Africa in 1878.

The jewel usually resides in Tiffany’s flagship store in Manhattan, New York.

It had previously been worn by Mrs. E. Sheldon Whitehouse at the 1957 Tiffany Ball, Audrey Hepburn in 1961 publicity pictures for Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Lady Gaga at  the 91st Academy Awards.

The pair have filmed a video advert for the brand too, which will be released on September 15 and feature Beyonce’s rendition of Moon River, shot by Jay Z.
