Ruth Jones has reunited with her Gavin and Stacey co-star and close friend Rob Brydon to play a married couple in a new comedy.
The actors play the title characters Gaynor & Ray, fifty-something newlyweds who are both married for the second time.
Gaynor’s first marriage ended when she found out her husband had cheated on her multiple times, while Ray’s first marriage broke down because he was ‘impossible to live with’ according to his ex-wife.
Having only been together six months the pair are still learning new things about each other – not all of them good – which sometimes leaves them wondering if they’ve done the right thing.
Gaynor & Ray follows the Cardiff couple on their honeymoon to the Scottish Highlands where they meet a variety of characters and situations and ponder on their own relationship.
It was created and co-written by Ruth Jones and David Peet, who said: ‘We’re delighted to watch Gaynor & Ray come to life on screen. Through them we get to see the male and female take on life and relationships as well as the nonsense in the day-to-day.’
The comedy was filmed on location in the North West Scottish Highlands and South Wales. Further cast will be announced soon.

Gavin and Stacey, about the relationship between a woman from Barry in Wales and a man from Billericay, Essex and their families, was reated and written by Ruth and James Corden. The Stella actress played Stacey’s bolschy best friend Nessa with Rob as Uncle Bryn.
It originally ran from 2007 to 2010 before it was brought back nine years later for a Christmas special, ending on a cliffhanger as Nessa proposed to James’ character Smithy.
The talk show host previously said it would be ‘a shame’ not to make any more episodes although he and Ruth have ‘not had a single conversation’ about doing it.

He told Radio 2: ‘As it stands there aren’t any plans to do more, but that’s not to say that there isn’t the want or the inclination to do one.
‘When we wrote that last special we never thought whether we’d make another, but that special ends on such a…it ends so open I think it would be a shame to leave it there.
‘That’s certainly my feeling and I think Ruth feels the same. It doesn’t feel like the end of a book but the end of a chapter. If we did another that would be the end of it.’
Gaynor & Ray will air on the BBC.
