Hey Upper East Siders, the Gossip Girl reboot has arrived, which means we will finally get to meet the new group of scandalous teens.

Fans of the show can now get to know the new characters who will be replacing the likes of Dan Humphrey, Blair Waldorf, and Serena van der Woodsen as our latest obsessions.

The series picks up eight years after we found out that (spoiler alert) Dan was the iconic blogger Gossip Girl.

This time though, we will be introduced to an even more tech-savvy gang of privileged Constance Billard and St Jude’s students.

Here is everything you need to know ahead of the new show.

What is the Gossip Girl reboot about?

The synopsis for the Gossip Girl reboot reads: ‘Eight years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl.

‘The prestige series will address just how much social media—and the landscape of New York itself—has changed in the intervening years.’

Who is in the new Gossip Girl cast?

The cast is packed to the brim with exciting new talent who are ready to show off their acting chops.

Whitney Peak, known for her parts in Netflix’s The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Aaron Sorkin’s Molly’s Game and Apple TV’s Home Before Dark, plays Zoya Lott.

Emily Alyn Lind portrays Audrey Hope, who could be compared to the original show’s Blair Waldorf, as she’s a wealthy student with a designer mother.

Fans think Savannah Smith’s character Monet de Haan could be the new Serena thanks to her It-girl energy.

Eli Brown’s character Otto ‘Obie’ Bergmann IV has been described as a bit of a do-gooder who ‘comes from a very wealthy family and he’s a humanitarian.’

Zión Moreno also features as stylist and seamstress Luna La, while Jordan Alexander portrays Julien Calloway and Thomas Doherty plays Maximus ‘Max’ Wolfe.

Blogger turned actress Tavi Gevinson plays Kate Keller and Evan Mock portrays Akeno ‘Aki’ Menzies.

Are any of the original Gossip Girl cast back?

While the show’s producers have shown interest in seeing original cast members make an appearance on the show, none have been confirmed.

Original executive producer Joshua Safran told Entertainment Weekly that they will see how the first season of the show goes before inviting former cast members back.

‘There isn’t enough screen-time… If Blair showed up for two scenes, you’d say, “I want more Blair.” The decision was: Let’s get season one under our belt, and should we get season two, we’ll have the chance to bring in cameos that are more than glorified cameos but actually give them storylines,’ he said.

However, don’t feel too sad just yet, as Gossip Girl’s distinctive voice as the omniscient narrator will be returning.

Kristen Bell has reprised her role which means the show will feel a little bit closer to the original.

What is the release date?

The new Gossip Girl series started in the US on HBO Max on July 8.

US viewers were also able to watch the reboot the day after its streaming debut on The CW network, the home of the original series.

The first season will consist of 12 episodes, split into two six-episode parts, with the second half debuting in November 2021.

Where to watch the Gossip Girl reboot in the UK?

Thankfully for UK fans, the highly-anticipated series is now available to watch in the UK via the BBC iPlayer app.

Dan McGolpin, Director of BBC iPlayer and Channels, shared the news in a statement.

‘The BBC has a rich track record of acquiring some of the best content from around the world to complement our original commissions and we are delighted to be reacquainting existing fans and introducing new viewers to the iconic world of Gossip Girl on BBC iPlayer,’ he said.

‘The original series defined an era and we cannot wait for everyone to see the new series with its exciting new generation.’

The first episode of the new series will also air on BBC One at 10:35pm on August 25 (tonight), the same day that first six episodes of the series debuted on iPlayer.

While the second half of the series will debut in November in the US, it has not yet been confirmed when the next batch of episodes will make it to the UK.
