There is a chance iconic sitcom The Office US could return for a reboot eight years after it finished (that’s what she said) as an NBC chief addresses the prospect of a revival.

The Office US, which was based on Ricky GervaisBBC series of the same name, is hands down one of the most popular shows in TV history, immortalising Steve Carell’s Michael Scott as the best worst boss in the business.

While many fans likely think the programme met a fitting end with its final episode in 2013, having premiered in 2005, there is a chance that a new iteration of the mockumentary set in a paper company will be back on our screens in the future.

Susan Rovner, content chief at NBCUniversal, discussed the future of The Office US while attending Edinburgh International TV Festival, initially declining to comment on plans for a reboot.

Nonetheless, she then added to Deadline that ‘whenever Greg Daniels wants to do one, we’re standing by’, as Greg Daniels developed the US version of the show.

So basically, as soon as Greg gives the reboot the green light, it sounds like it could be a sure thing!

While some fans may like the idea of new actors bringing The Office to life, others aren’t so keen on a reboot at all.

‘@nbc regarding a @theofficetv reboot- no Michael Scott, no go. Period. This is not debatable. #TheOfficeUS,’ one person tweeted.

‘The Office does not need a reboot hell no,’ another said.

Someone else wrote: ‘If I see one more story on the socials about how NBC is wanting to reboot the office, I’ll quietly be annoyed at my desk, but like really annoyed, in a big way.’

However, another fan remarked: ‘Man we need The Office reboot. This was and still is my favourite show.’

In January this year, Greg discussed the prospect of an Office reboot, telling Collider that while a revival wasn’t in development at the time, ‘it’s not impossible’.

‘It’s not impossible for sure. I would want to be involved, and I’ve got two other shows I’m working on right now,’ he said.

The Office US is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
