New Halo Infinite release date leak claims early December launch

There’s new hope that Halo Infinite is still coming out this year, as Microsoft leak a new date ahead of tonight’s Gamescom livestream.

If Halo Infinite does make it out this year, it’s clearly only going to be by the skin of its teeth. It’s already been delayed by a year and recently it was announced that both campaign co-op and Forge mode will have to be delayed into next year.

The non-appearance of the game at Microsoft’s pre-Gamescom event on Tuesday seemed to point towards a new delay but now a new leak on Microsoft’s own store page suggests it’s still on for 2022 – just even later than previously rumoured.

According to Italian website Aggiornamenti Lumia the Microsoft Store briefly listed the release date of the game as December 8, although that’s now been changed to December 31 – which is obviously a placeholder date and not meant to be taken literally.

Some people will, quite understandably, take the December 31 date at face value but in general the first week of December is the very latest point in the year that any major game ever releases.

Cyberpunk 2077 last year came out at that time, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate before that, and Dying Light 2 is scheduled for December 7 this year.

The last Halo Infinite rumour came from a Krispy Kreme tie-in which talked about a launch in November. That was before the removal of Forge and co-op though, so it’s entirely plausible the game could’ve been delayed beyond that.

The question should finally be resolved tonight at the Gamescom Opening Night Live event. If it is officially revealed then the speculation will at last be over and if it’s not mentioned then Halo Infinite has almost certainly been delayed until 2022.

Although even then it’s possible Microsoft might choose to release just the multiplayer mode this year, which they’ve already announced will be free-to-play.
