WBC President Says We Haven’t Seen the Last of Manny Pacquiao

Last weekend, Manny Pacquiao capitulated to a dreadful loss to the underdog Yordenis Ugas. This fight was for the latter’s WBA welterweight ‘super’ title and he largely outclassed Pacquiao in the 12-round classic, especially towards the end. This left a slight dent in Pacquiao’s illustrious career, but still, he has nothing to lose.

Also, many fans thought ‘Pacman’ would hang up his gloves from the sport after this loss. But until now, no one from his team gave clarity on the same, nor did the boxing legend.

Recently, the WBC President, Mauricio Sulaiman, too opened up on the entire juncture and gave his take. In a personal opinion, he expressed that this won’t be Pacquiao’s last fight and even if it is, he feels the 42-year-old will always be the pride of WBC. Moreover, he asserted that we [the fans] haven’t seen the last of Manny Pacquiao (h/t WBC Boxing) 

Pacquiao made an appearance in the Ugas fight after a long hiatus of two years. His inactivity was visible in this clash, as the boxing icon failed to land his best punches on the Cuban boxer.

Right from the first bell, Ugas was the oppressive boxer, and he took full advantage of his height and reach. ‘Pacman’ wasn’t able to reach Ugas because of their physical statures and this didn’t go well for the veteran by any means.

Overall, the Filipino Senator received several power punches from his contemporaries and he ended up losing this fight. In every sense, he was a favorite in this clash, but Ugas was the better man on fight night and he got the desired results.

Should Manny Pacquiao really continue his stint?

‘Pacman’ has spent close to three decades in boxing now and he has some astonishing achievements in the bag.

However, age is a vital factor, and looking at his inactivity, it seems ‘Pacman’ doesn’t have much left in him. He still is among the fittest athletes in boxing, but the sport demands more and the upcoming young guns certainly bring what it takes.

That said, Pacquiao should definitely give a thought on retirement. Because there’s nothing more he’s left to achieve.
