“7 Points Really?!”: When Bronny James Blasted Father LeBron James

Arguably the greatest playoff performer of the current generation, LeBron James is no novice to the pressure of performing at the highest level. James, having been to 9 NBA finals in the past decade, knows what it takes to carry a team to the promised land. In fact, the King is the only athlete in NBA history, to have won a championship and Finals MVP with 3 different franchises!

However, a performer like James, too, has had his fair share of playoff burnouts. Whether it be in the 2011 Finals vs Dallas, or in Game 5 of the 2014 Eastern Finals against Indiana, LeBron simply din’t show up!

Miami and Indiana battled it out in the playoffs for the better part of over 2 years in 2013 & 2014, with a prime Paul George going pushing the Heat Big 3 to their limits. Interesting fact, who was Indiana’s head coach? LeBron’s current head coach Frank Vogel!

While LeBron is well tuned to phase out the ‘white noise’, he definitely wouldn’t have seen it coming from his own blood!

LeBron James went cold turkey

James, presumably part of the NBA Finals Media day, narrated a hilarious exchange between him and his son Bronny James after James failed to bring it home in Game 5. Unlike his usual playoff reliability, LeBron only scored 7pts/4reb/2ast with 3 turnovers on 2-off-10 from the field.

Game 6 though? Whole different story, as the Miami Heat closed out Indiana to make their 4th straight NBA Finals, the final chapter of the South Beach Big 3.

LeBron James recalling his son’s remarks, said – “After I came home from Game 5 of the Eastern conference finals this year, we got home late from Indiana. I got up. It was a late day, and I was in the kitchen and was about to eat. My older son comes in and says “7pts, 5 fouls?” and he just walked away!”

James’ who wasn’t in the best of moods, said, “You better get away from me right now. That’s exactly what he said. He was like nothing else. 7 points really? You only had 7 points and 5 fouls? I could do that in my sleep.”

Bronny’s NBA aspirations

Bronny’s time is coming up on the docket. Currently part of Sierra Canyon basketball, Bronny could likely make it to the league by the time James is once again a free agent in 2023.

And while James has been vocal about his goal of one day being able to play with his son, it will largely depend on Bronny’s game in the near future.
