Edgar Ramirez has described the ‘nightmare’ of losing two more family members to Covid-19 just over month after the death of his grandmother.

The actor, who hails from Venezuela, said his aunt and uncle as well as a family friend had died from the virus.

He explained that they had not been vaccinated because Venezuela does not have access to vaccines.

The Zero Dark Thirty star went on to urge people to have the vaccine and directed his followers to a 10-minute interview he had with Dr. Anthony Fauci in which the issue is discussed further.

Sharing a heartbreaking statement on Instagram he said: ‘Unfortunately the miracle didn’t happen. After a gruesome agony my aunt Lucy died on Saturday. And after being stabilised for a few days and in only a matter of hours my uncle Guillermo collapsed and died on Sunday,’ he posted.

‘In less than 24 hours. Covid had taken both of their lives. We had not yet collected my aunt’s ashes when we were due to incinerate my uncle’s body.

‘Then on Monday, still unable to process the shock and the horror from the weeknend, we woke up to the news that my Aunt Nidia’s brother-in-law Rafael, a dear friend, has also died months after battling with Covid complications.

‘They all died exactly a month and two days after Covid had taken the life of my grandmother Bertha and 4 months since it took the life of my Venezuelan agent and dear friend Laureano.’

He went on: ‘My heart can’t just take more pain. I am sad, I am frustrated, I am devastated.

‘It’s been weeks and weeks of my family being played, tortured and jerked around by this cruel, treacherous and violent disease which mercilessly ended up killing them all.

‘I can’t stand this void in my chest, this metallic taste in my mouth, this crippling headache that doesn’t seem to soothe. These waves of hopelessness that I refuse to take root in my soul.’

As he urged people to have the vaccinations, Edgar continued: ‘Don’t do it for yourself. Do it to protect those who are vulnerable, those with immune deficiencies, and all others who can get very sick if infected.’

He added that he wanted his conversation with Dr Fauci to be useful to anyone hesitant about being vaccinated.

Actress Jennifer Garner, who stars with him in Yes Day, reported his statement on her own Instagram and added: ‘My dear @edgarramirez25’s story is incredibly heartbreaking and too important not to share.’
