“Most Frustrating for Me”: Andy Murray Opens Up On his Poor Form Ahead of US Open 2021

Bearer of bad news, the Winston-Salem Open made headlines for its eventful start this week. The highlight of the tournament, Andy Murray, put on a show in his first match at the tournament. However, falling victim to his second-round curse, the former World No. 1 bowed out of the tournament, despite a hard-fought battle.

The Winston-Salem Open is the last ATP men’s event in the build-up to the mega tournament, the US Open 2021. Notably, Britain’s most favorite tennis star, Andy Murray, stole headlines with his appearance in the tournament. Ever since his return to the court, fans follow everywhere the English maestro goes, hoping for him to pull off yet another miraculous victory. Hence, his exit from the tournament stung a little harder.

Speaking of the same, Andy reflected over his declining form that fails to resurrect, despite him give it his all. He opens up on where he believes the problem lies and how being more acceptive of reality is needed.

“I have to be more reasonable”- Andy Murray

Following yet another defeat, this time at the Winston-Salem Open, Murray opened up on his feelings towards his form. Notably, he spots the difference between him and his counterparts that get the better of him.

He said, “Yeah, obviously, it can be very frustrating. I also have to try to be reasonable in my expectations. In terms of, you know, the amount of tennis I played. You know this year I have no idea how many matches someone like Frances has played or someone like Hurkcaz, that I played last week. But I would guess it is somewhere in the 40s or 50s. And you know I’m sort of playing 10,11 or 12 matches, with breaks and everything, didn’t play much at the end of last year either.”

Not to mistake Andy’s result for his spirit, the Englishman has passed every test to his character and grit. His desire to win has been on display every time he goes to battle. However, it hasn’t been enough for him to arise victorious in the fight.

Speaking of the same, he said, “At the moment it is frustrating because there’re times in matches where I feel like right now is the time to step it up and you know, make good choices and raise my level and in those moments. I’m just not doing that, the opposite is happening. And that’s the thing that’s frustrating for me.

“I’ve created chances in my last two matches to win sets and put pressure on my opponents, but I’ve not capitalized on them. So yeah, that’s the thing for me that’s most frustrating.”

Another one bites the dust

Andy Murray’s miraculous return to the sport at the 2021 Wimbledon Championship was surely the stuff they make dreams of. However, his fantasy league met its unfortunate reality as the gentle giant was knocked out in the round of 32. Ever since, Andy has been on a quest to mark his return with a title. Sadly, so far, he’s only fallen victim to surprise defeats and early exits, with the Winston-Salem Open being the latest of all.

After Murray’s emphatic straight-set victory over Noah Rubin in the first round, the 34-year-old was favorites to win. However, in a rather shocking style, Tiafoe defeated Andy, putting his hard-fought efforts in vain.

As the scoreline read 7-6, 6-3, Andy was on his way out of the court, with yet another surprise, early exit to his name. What’s next for Andy Murray?
