Sofia Kenin Joins Serena Williams, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Others to Withdraw From US Open 2021

The world prepares to witness some of the absolute best battle it out under the New York skyline. With the clock ticking, tennis fans stay glued to the action, hoping to see their stars go all out for the ultimate glory. However, fans expecting to see American sensation Sofia Kenin take to the court will have to settle for disappointment. In recent news, the 22-year-old announced her withdrawal from the US Open 2021.

Youngster Sofia Kenin is one of the popular faces on the WTA tour. Courtesy of her exuberant tennis, she has emerged as a fan-favorite over the course of time. Hence, her recent announcement leaves fans in disbelief. Unfortunately, Sofia Kenin has tested positive for Covid-19, resulting in her withdrawal from the tournament.

Tough luck Sofia Kenin

One of the most exciting youngsters, Sofia, will undoubtedly be missed. Taking to her social media, the world No. 5 Tweeted her disappointment.

She said, “Hi guys.. I am writing with disappointing news. Recently, I tested positive for Covid-19. Fortunately I am vaccinated and thus my symptoms have been fairly mild. However I have continued to test positive and thus will not be able to compete at the US Open next week.”

“I plan to spend the next several weeks getting healthy and preparing to play well this fall. Thank you all for supporting me. I want to wish all the players the best of luck in New York,” she further added.
