Google Maps sleuths discover strange alien-like hexagon on Australian coast
AN EAGLE-EYED mum has discovered a strange, alien-like structure on Google Maps.
Avid traveller Vanessa Hammond, from Queensland, found the hexagonal compound while hunting for holiday spots on the Australian coast.

She shared satellite snaps of the site available on Google’s digital map service with her Instagram followers last year, the Daily Star reports.
Writing alongside the post, she said: “Someone explain this. I’m scared. I found this today.”
Her clip reveals a location shows a location somewhere over the Cape Range National Park in Western Austrlia.
As she zooms in, an orange, hexagonal compound with intersecting lines appears close to the coast.
The futuristic pattern appears to be chiselled into the desert landscape.
In response to her post, Vanessa’s 57,000 followers speculated as to what the bizarre structure may be.

They suggested it could be a carving left by prehistoric humans, while others highlighted that it bears resemblance to a crop circle.
Australian outlet 7 News reported Vanessa’s story and, tongue firmly in cheek, hinted that it could be “an unknown alien settlement”.
Vanessa shared a handful of responses, including one that read: “I believe they were communication towers and the shape has something to do with the way they transmit.”
As it turns out, the explanation is pretty simple. The area is actually part of a naval base near the town of Exmouth.
The images show Tower Zero, a structure at Naval Communication Station Harold E. Holt.
The station provides radio transmission to US Navy and Royal Australian Navy ships and submarines in the western Pacific Ocean and eastern Indian Ocean.
Tower Zero is one of the largest structures of its kind in the southern hemisphere.
One of Vanessa’s followers wrote: “I’ve been here! Exmouth. Old camp grounds from the Americans and there’s even a mini town that has a pool and a bowling alley.”
