Lionel Messi Is No Longer a ‘Top Tier League’ Player After Shocking UEFA Changes

Lionel Messi moved to a new club this summer after spending 20 years at FC Barcelona. The Argentinian forward joined French club Paris Saint Germain on a free transfer after his new deal with Barcelona was jeopardized by La Liga rules.

Fans are incredibly excited to see one of the greatest players of all time suit up with Neymar Jr. and Kylian Mbappe again. However, Real Madrid have submitted a huge bid for Mbappe, and the French world cup winner might leave PSG this summer.

Nevertheless, Messi will still have an amazing team around him. The signing of Sergio Ramos and Achraf Hakimi make PSG’s defence one of the best in the world. Moreover, the signing of Gini Wijnaldum was a masterstroke by PSG’s sporting director Leonardo Araujo.

However, all of it might be overshadowed by the fact that Ligue 1 is no longer a top 5 league. The French top-flight lost its spot to the Portuguese League. UEFA confirmed the change after the result of the UEFA Champions League qualification results.

It implies that players like Ramos, Messi and Neymar Jr. are all not playing in a top-five league. Portuguese teams like Sporting Lisbon, Benfica and FC Porto have all done relatively well in the past two seasons. The rise of Sporting Lisbon has been exceptionally outstanding as they won the league last season too.

Lionel Messi might not get to play with Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe to Real Madrid always looked inevitable. The Frenchman was a fan of the club ever since he was a child and looked up to Zinedine Zidane and Cristiano Ronaldo as his two inspirations. As a result, he has communicated his desire to leave the club this summer to the PSG hierarchy.

Official bid from Real Madrid for Kylian Mbappé still on the table. €170m plus €10m and this will be the final one. Negotiations will take place today between PSG and Real. #RealMadrid #Mbappé

Moreover, Madrid have been trying to sign Mbappe this summer, even though the forward would’ve been available on a free next summer. They submitted a new offer of €170m (£146m) after their first bid of €160m was rejected. PSG have not accepted this bid yet either, and it’ll be interesting to see if the move materializes now.
