Why Roger Federer Is Not Playing the US Open 2021

It’s been two decades since the world first got a glimpse of Roger Federer. In 2001, the Swiss maestro knocked out seven-time champion Pete Sampras from the Wimbledon Championships. Ever since then, he has rewritten the record books of this elegant sport.

Not long ago did Roger Federer reveal that he would be ending his season as he has to undergo third knee surgery in a span of 12 months. As he gets older, the challenges and obstacles in his path will continue to mount. However, in the past, he has found a way to get back to winning ways.

Roger Federer had a below-par 2021 season

When the Basel-born player returned to Tour after a year’s absence, he struggled with his performances. At the French Open, he withdrew before his fourth-round match because he lacked match fitness. Later at the Wimbledon Championships, he lost in the quarterfinal in an unusual manner, which did raise eyebrows.

Due to his latest decision, he will be missed at the US Open this year. In the previous season, he missed the US Open too on similar grounds. In recent years, Federer has not managed to win the US Open. However, he is the most successful player in the current era, winning the title five times from 2004-2008.

After that, he came to the finals twice but was beaten by Juan Martin del Potro and Novak Djokovic respectively. As a fan, one hopes to see the Swiss ace return back to full fitness and compete at the highest level. He has carried the sport on his shoulders and increased the popularity of tennis. We wish him a speedy recovery.
