Crochet doesn’t just have to be for granny blankets, says Jane Moore

Until recently, the word ‘crochet’ was associated with ‘granny blankets’ for cold knees.

But suddenly, it’s super trendy and everywhere; aided and abetted by the glorious Tom Daley knitting and crocheting a variety of designs poolside at Tokyo 2020.

I wore it in abundance back in the 70s but, this time round, I’m worried that I might be too old for it – particularly when it comes to the itsy bitsy bikini style top, as seen on models  like 26-year-old Gwen Singer who is dating  musician Gavin Rossdale.

But if you shop around, there are plenty of style options that embrace the trend without being too revealing.

One of my favourites is this orange and cream tank top with a flattering (but not too plunging) v-neck and capped sleeves. It sits at exactly the right length to cover the abdomen and, teamed with these cream flares, gives an overall look that is fashionable and comfortable.

I have teamed it with a pair of slip on, raffia mules for an extra-casual look, and a pair of orange earrings just to complement the pop of colour in the top. It’s fresh, easy to wear and reasonably priced.

What’s knit to love?
