Floyd Mayweather’s Protege Gervonta Davis Vacates WBA Super-Featherweight Title

Gervonta Davis is one terrifying young gun who has quickly risen to prominence. With his out-of-the-box performances in umpteen weight classes, ‘Tank’ has become a fan favorite and has won gold in all weight classes. He even held all the belts simultaneously, until today, as he vacated the super-featherweight belt.

The WBA President, Gilberto Mendoza, broke this news to ESPN. Following his decision, the knockout sensation now holds WBA ‘regular’ belts at the lightweight and super-lightweight frame.

‘Tank’ is slowly and steadily elevating his boxing career alongside moving to higher weight classes. That said, in his stint until now, Davis has shown tremendous improvements every time he’s changed his weight category. For now, he’s transitioned his focus to the super-lightweight roster.

A few months back, the young gun faced Mario Barrios for the WBA ‘regular’ super-lightweight title. In this bout, Davis didn’t seem in his element for the first half of the fight. However, just like a champion, the 26-year-old figured out what was needed and demolished his rival.
