Gordon Ramsay’s game show Bank Balance axed after one series by the BBC

Gordon Ramsay’s Bank Balance is coming to an end at the BBC after one series.

The celebrity chef made his debut as a game show host earlier this year, but the series won’t be back for a second run with the broadcaster.

The programme saw contestants compete in pairs to win cash prizes. They answered questions in order to stack different sized gold bars onto a precarious balance board. The more bars, the more money, with a total of £100,000 up for grabs.

The Beeb has now confirmed that the show would not be returning after airing for the first time in February this year.

A BBC spokesperson told Metro.co.uk: ‘There are no current plans for another series of Bank Balance.’

It comes after the game show left some viewers feeling frustrated by the overly complicated rules – with some even comparing it to Friends character Joey Tribbiani’s very own Bamboozled.

Bank Balance ran for nine episodes in February. Despite ratings beginning at 2.7million, they eventually fell to 1.5m by the third episode.

The series was filmed during the height of the pandemic in Covid-secure surroundings earlier this year, and contestants took part in the programme in household groups or support bubbles.

While the show won’t return to the BBC, Studio Ramsay is planning to take it to the US in a deal with Fox.

It comes after Gordon offered to compensate a disappointed couple when their dream wedding location was overrun by the TV chef and his film crew.

It was also recently confirmed that Gordon’s daughter Tilly Ramsay will be joining the line-up of the 2021 series – in a move which left some viewers confused.

Gordon Ramsay’s Bank Balance is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
