Max Verstappen Suggests Major Changes to Prevent Repeat of Belgian GP F1 Controversy

The race director and stewards called the Belgian Grand Prix off after just two laps of running behind the safety car. They declared Red Bull driver Max Verstappen as the race winner as he was on the pole for the race. But Verstappen believes the FIA needs to find the solution regarding the start duration of the race.

The race at Spa was due to start at 3 pm local time, but the rain intensified. The weather was the same for the F3 race a couple of hours earlier, but the rain and the visibility were much better than the F1 race.

On days like this, it’s better to start a bit earlier at 12 or 1pm: Max Verstappen

As reported by Formula1.com, the Red Bull driver believes that the race should start at noon or 1 o’clock to avoid the possibility of darkness. He also stated that he did not get why the race starts so late.

“It’s a long wait. In a way when you start at 3 o’clock and you have days like this maybe it’s better to start a bit earlier, at 12, 1 o’clock. I think that’s a better time anyway to start, for me. Now it’s just dragging on and on and the weather just gets worse and worse. It gets dark.” said Max.

Verstappen mentioned that the biggest problem was not the rain but the visibility at Spa.

” I guess that was the biggest problem. I mean the grip was low, we know that, in the wet. We don’t have a lot of grip with these tires but when you can’t see where you are going or you don’t know where the car ahead of you is, that’s never really nice, so you can’t properly race like that.” said Verstappen after the race.

The Red Bull driver reveals the positives from the Belgian Grand Prix weekend

Max Verstappen could close the gap to Lewis Hamilton in the championship. The gap between the drivers is just three points going into his home race in Zandvoort.

” We had two races where we didn’t really score points, so we needed a decent result. Of course, again, it’s not how you want to have the result, but still, I think the entire weekend we were very competitive, and that’s very important on a track like this with long straights.

And now we go to Zandvoort, which is new for everyone, so there will be a bit of a question mark over how everyone will perform and maybe some surprises as well. You never know, but I’m looking forward to it.” said Verstappen.

Verstappen will race at Zandvoort for the first time in his career in F1. He would love to win the race in front of the home crowd and take the championship lead again.
