Ore Oduba battled with PTSD after Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins: ‘I broke down’

Ore Oduba has said he experienced an element of PTSD after filming the new series of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.

The television presenter and former Strictly Come Dancing champion, who is one of 12 celebrities on the line-up for this year’s show, struggled in the aftermath of returning to normal life.

‘I think it’s probably accurate to say there was an element of PTSD following the show,’ Ore told Metro.co.uk and other press, although making it clear that it was undiagnosed.

‘I’ve never been through an experience like that that haunted me for days following. I remember just doing a workout at home and I felt heavy from the experience.’

Ore broke down in tears in front of his son, who was just two at the time, after returning home from the Channel 4 show.

‘My hands were in bandages, cuts to the face and various things,’ he recalled. ‘I came through the door and my son looked at my bandages and asked, “Are you, okay daddy?” And I broke down spontaneously in tears because of the reality of what I went through.’

He continued: ‘I think it’s going to be a very different experience watching the show back because it will trigger a lot of the things that we went through and found in ourselves and survived and beat or were affected by.’

Ore made it clear that there was a team of psychologists on hand to help him, as well as an aftercare team.

‘I’ve dealt with it and I’m moving through it,’ he shared, adding that the experience has given him a newfound respect for army veterans.

‘There is a huge level of appreciation for people who do that as a job every day for decades of their lives and then they have to go back to civilian life and deal with it,’ Ore said.

‘We had a few days and I felt it for some time afterward and I feel so much better for having had that experience. I had a little insight into what PTSD might feel like for someone who was in the military.’

SAS: Who Dares Wins begins on Sunday 29th August at 9pm on Channel 4.
