Which Was the Longest US Open Match Ever

As the US Open 2021 begins today, we take a look at some of the interesting aspects surrounding this prestigious Grand Slam event. One of the interesting topics that caught my attention was the longest match ever to be played in Flushing Meadows, New York.

The two players involved in the longest match in the US Open history was between Stefan Edberg and Michael Chang. It was the semifinal in 1992 and the match was won by the Swede in 5 hours and 26 minutes. To date, this has been the longest match to have been played in the US Open Championships.

The second-longest match at the US Open was played in 2012

The 2012 US Open final between Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic is the second-longest match. It lasted for 4 hours and 54 minutes. The match was won by the British star, which was his first Grand Slam title victory.

The US Open 2021 is scheduled to begin on the 30th of August and will go on till the 13th of September. Sadly, five-time champion Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and defending champion Dominic Thiem have decided to pull out of the event due to various injuries.

On the other hand, superstars like Novak Djokovic, Naomi Osaka, and Serena Williams are expected to headline this year’s event. However, the presence of Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Alexander Zverev will surely be a challenge for the Serb.

It will be interesting to see if Djokovic can win his 21st Grand Slam title and also if Williams can win her much-awaited 24th Grand Slam title. We wish all players the best of luck and may the better player win.
