Ashley Cain and Safiyya Vorajee have opened up about how they get each other through the ‘bad days’ since the death of their daughter Azaylia.

Azaylia died at eight-months-old in April after battling a rare and aggressive form of leukaemia.

The couple have launched The Azaylia Foundation in her memory and want to help other families who are going through a similar situation.

The couple had raised over £1.6million in a bid to fly their daughter to Singapore for treatment but she was unfortunately unable to travel before her death.

Ashley and Safiyya say they have used the money to launch the charity and raise awareness of disease to help alert other parents to the symptoms.

The former Ex On The Beach star, who recently paid tribute to his girlfriend on her first birthsay since Azaylia died, revealed they have hit rocky patches in their relationship but ‘pick each other up’.

Speaking to The Sun he said: ‘Azaylia was the one who inspired a nation going through Covid, the one who got £1.5million in a GoFundMe, which will go on to save hundreds if not thousands of children across this country. If that is not a heroic figure to look up to, I don’t know what is.

‘We say we will never be able to achieve in our lifetimes what Azaylia achieved in eight months.

‘Safiyya and I have bad days but we pick each other up. This has made us stronger and has brought us closer together, because we still have a part of Azaylia with us.’

Grieving Safiyya shared that she visits Azaylia’s final resting place, which she calls Azaylia’s ‘garden’, multiple times a day to gain strength from being near her daughter.

‘Sometimes when I get anxiety and I am having a bad day I go down to sit with her because I get her strength,’ she said.

‘Sometimes I go down there five times a day, for four hours at a time. I know her body is there. It gives me comfort.’

Speaking about the foundation on his Instagram page this week, Ashley explained their aim was to ‘raise awareness and life saving funds for children with cancer and provide their families with light and relief during a time when darkness threatens to take over.’

‘And like Azaylia, we WILL be FEARLESS in the fight against childhood cancer,’ Ashley concluded.

‘We wouldn’t be where we are today without the amazing support from the community that was united in our love for Azaylia and we want to thank everyone who donated and shared our story, without you this wouldn’t be possible.’
