Anthony Edwards Compares Himself to Michael Jordan as He Goes Through a Growth Spurt

While size is not a primary factor, it can play a very important role in the development of a player. Some are blessed with size, while others go through crazy growth spurts. Recently, a young player said that he would become Michael Jordan if he grows to that size.

Anthony Edwards did not disappoint as the number 1 pick in the 2020 NBA draft. He quickly became a big part of Minnesota’s offense and keeps getting better. According to Timberwolves coach, Edwards has grown taller since the draft. Looking at his growth spurt, he has kept a really high ceiling for himself.

Edwards the next Michael Jordan?

Edwards came into the NBA as a 6’4 guard and made his mark in the league right away, consistently putting up great numbers. Now, his height has increased by 2 inches and he is officially 6’6. Looking at this growth spurt, he had some big words.

Notably, he told coach Chris Finch: ‘Don’t let me get to 6’6″ or I’ll be Michael Jordan.’ This shows the confidence that the young man possesses in himself. However, it seems like a far fetch comparison at this point.

Edwards is only going to enter his sophomore year and is yet to develop. On the other hand, Michael was dominant the second he stepped on an NBA court, putting up 28 points per game as a rookie. While their heights may be the same, the skill matchup is a different story.

Both Edwards and Jordan are elite aerial finishers with a great vertical. But, MJ’s midrange game far surpasses that of Edwards’. There is no guarantee of what the 20-year-old will turn into, but saying he’ll be Jordan sounds like a push.

Anthony Edwards set to be a star

Edwards was really impressive in his rookie season for Minnesota. He finished as a close runner-up for Rookie of the Year behind LaMelo Ball. Combining his talent with work ethic, he is sure to become a star in the time to come.

Edwards surely showed up in his first NBA season and averaged over 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. While his 3-point shot wasn’t great, he really picked it up in the second half of the season. Moreover, with his recent growth spurt, he can become a much more versatile player in the lineup.

Timberwolves are a great young team with Towns, D’Angelo Russell, and Edwards as their headline players. When all were on the court, the Wolves were really getting it going. With Edwards sure to improve and Russell returning from injury, Minnesota will be an exciting team to watch.
