No Timesplitters at THQ 10th anniversary showcase

To celebrate its 10th anniversary, THQ is holding a showcase to announce six new games, but the new Timesplitters won’t be one of them.

Turns out Sony isn’t the only one planning a special showcase event this month. THQ Nordic has also announced a showcase of its own to celebrate its 10th anniversary. And as part of the celebrations, it will announce six brand new games.

‘Witness the return of legendary franchises and sequels to beloved games,’ reads the video description. That sentence is sure to make fans think of the new Timesplitters game, which was confirmed to be in development earlier this year.

However, THQ has already shot down any hope that it will appear during the showcase, explaining to a fan on Twitter that Timesplitters will not be featured since it technically isn’t one of their franchises.

While THQ did acquire Timesplitters in 2018, the new game is being developed by a reformed Free Radical Design, which is a subsidiary of Deep Silver, itself a subsidiary of Koch Media, which is part of the Embracer Group alongside THQ.

Even if Timesplitters is absent, this still leaves a number of franchises that could be featured during the showcase, including Darksiders, Destroy All Humans, and Kingdoms Of Amalur.

The showcase is scheduled to take place on September 17 and will be hosted by Geoff Keighley. Aside from the aforementioned announcements, there will also be new information and footage for ELEX 2, a direct sequel to the sci-fi open-world role-playing game from 2017, and strategy role-player Expeditions: Rome.

While the showcase won’t properly start until 8pm, THQ suggests that you tune in early, teasing a glimpse at what one of its studios, HandyGames, is working on.

THQ acquired HandyGames in 2018 and, since then, the studio has contributed to multiple game releases, including This Is The Police 2 and the remake of SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle For Bikini Bottom.

The THQ 10th anniversary showcase is scheduled for September 17 at 8pm BST / 12pm PST.
