Meanwhile McGregor is recovering from the broken leg he suffered during his July defeat to Dustin Poirier as he plots a comeback in UFC.

There has been talk in the past about Notorious potentially following the likes of Brock Lesnar and Ronda Rousey in crossing over from the octagon into the squared-circle.

He has also been outspoken in the past and drawn wrath from the WWE roster after criticising both the wrestlers, the industry and its scripted nature.

But despite all of that, Cena still believes it would be tremendous to see the McGregor compete for Vince McMahon’s company.

Speaking on That Scene with Dan Patrick podcast, the Leader of the Cenation said: “He’d be fantastic. He is what we do. [Wrestling is] a little less predictable.

“Our surprises are getting people to show up at random and weave the ‘choose your own adventure’ into a different alley.

“His surprises are getting a few teeth knocked out or getting an operation. Not to say that this doesn’t happen with us, mistakes happen, but in his profession, it’s not a mistake.”

Cena added: “I hope (he makes an appearance) because I want to see it. At my core, I’m a fan.

“He’s interesting and has a gravity about him. I want to see him perform.”
