Dizzee Rascal pleads not guilty to assault charge

Dizzee Rascal has denied assaulting a a woman at a home in south London this summer.

The 36-year-old entered a plea of not guilty to assault by beating at Croydon Magistrates’ Court today, after being arrested in June.

The Fix Up Look Sharp rapper was dressed in a dark grey suit, a white shirt and a tie for his appearance, and was seen speaking on the phone prior to entering the court.

On June 8, Dizzee, real name Dylan Mills, was arrested after a woman suffered a minor injury at her home in Streatham, South London on June 8.

The woman did not require hospital treatment.

On August 2, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police confirmed Mills had been charged, saying: ‘Dylan Mills, 36, of Sevenoaks, Kent, has been charged with assault after an incident at a residential address in Streatham on 8 June.

‘Officers attended and a woman reported minor injuries. She did not require hospital treatment.’

Mills was 18 when his debut, Boy in da Corner, was released in 2003, with the album going on to become one of the year’s most acclaimed albums and winning the Mercury Prize.

Since then, he has released a further six albums, including 2020’s E3 AF, and achieved three consecutive number ones with Dance Wiv Me with Calvin Harris, Bonkers with Armand Van Helden, and Holiday featuring Chrome.

Mills was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2020 Birthday Honours for services to music.
