VIDEO: Astonishing Scenes as Sebastian Vettel Scrambles to Save His F1 Car from Fire at Zandvoort

The Dutch Grand Prix weekend is underway, with the First Practice session taking place. However, there already has been an incident with Sebastian Vettel. As the German was zipping around Zandvoort, smoke was coming out of his Aston Martin.

The 4-times world champion would have hoped that his start to the weekend could have gotten off to a better start. Instead, it was ruined, as his power unit went up in smoke, leaving the German to get out of the car and get a fire extinguisher.

Sebastian Vettel tries to save his Aston Martin from bursting into flames

After having a disappointing race last weekend at Spa. The German was hoping to kick things off in the Netherlands. However, it hasn’t gone his way in FP1, as he was zipping around the Dutch track, smoke had appeared to come out of his car.

He stopped at turn one of the track, immediately got out of the car, ran to get an extinguisher, and some help from the marshalls. With the session being red-flagged, he got into the medical car and headed back to his team’s garage.

A difficult start to the weekend for the German

After not being able to properly compete last weekend at Spa, Vettel was hoping to get a good start at Zandvoort. However, a power unit malfunction made his Aston Martin catch smoke.

Thankfully, Vettel stopped his car at turn one, and rapidly tried to deescalate the situation. His quick thinking may have just saved his car from severe damage, as used to the fire extinguisher to reduce the chances of flames catching on.
