JTG Daugherty Racing Offers Sneak Peek at 2022 Next Gen Car

Last weekend, the 23XI Racing team offered a first look at what their 2022 car for Kurt Busch would look like. Now, the JTG Daugherty Racing team is the next outfit to unveil their Next Gen car. Just a few days ago, the outfit confirmed that they were scaling down to one car, as opposed to two this season. In 2021, the team ran the #47 and #37 cars for Ricky Stenhouse Jr and Ryan Preece.

JTG Daugherty Racing’s newest reveal shows that they will retain the #47 number instead of the #37. Of course, this means that Preece is left without a drive for the coming season. On an interesting note, the JTG car was different from the 23XI Racing car. To be precise, the latter showcased where the driver numbers will be placed on the cars. Meanwhile, JTG Daugherty Racing opted to stick with the traditional number placement on their car in the images.

Why did JTG Daugherty unveil their car?

The simple answer is that the outfit will be one of eight teams participating in a Goodyear tyre test next week. So the team and seven others will travel to the Daytona International Speedway on September 7th and conclude the test on the 8th. The other teams are, Richard Childress Racing, Joe Gibbs Racing, Roush Fenway Racing and Team Penske.

Also joining them are Hendrick Motorsports, Stewart-Haas Racing, Chip Ganassi Racing and JTG Daugherty Racing. The chosen drivers are Austin Dillon, Denny Hamlin, Chris Buescher and Joey Logano. Meanwhile, William Byron, Cole Custer, Ross Chastain, and Stenhouse Jr himself will also be in attendance.

It is also worth noting that this is the first time that teams are using their own prepared cars for the tests. Until now, everyone has been using the Next Gen prototypes or manufacturer-prepared cars. In a way, it will help gauge how the teams stack up against each other.
