WATCH: Sebastian Vettel’s Tense Exchange With Mick Schumacher After Qualifying Row at Zandvoort

Sebastian Vettel failed to get out of Q1 at the Dutch Grand Prix qualifying at Zandvoort. The German was looking competitive throughout the weekend but got himself involved in a last corner Haas tussle.

Haas F1 drivers Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin were fighting each other in the last corner to go see who goes first. The tussle nearly took out Vettel, who was on a hot lap, and he had to take avoiding action, which ruined his qualifying.

The 4-time world champion shows his disappointment towards Schumacher

Mick Schumacher considers Sebastian Vettel as his idol and mentor in F1. So he was pretty upset to learn that Vettel was frustrated as he ruined Seb’s lap.

Mick mentioned that Seb is one of the only people, who he hopes has a good quali: “He is the last person I want to stand in the way of.” https://t.co/97e3ToXmuu

“He is the last person I want to stand in the way of,” said Schumacher on Vettel.

Mick further stated, “I don’t know what Nikita is saying, I think in the end, his crew didn’t give him the message. I asked if I could overtake because my tires were quite cold and he usually does a lap that is a bit slower than mine and I got the okay from the team and overtook accordingly.”

“I think Lando [Norris] was between us and I don’t see a reason to make a drama out of it. His lap didn‘t get ruined. We will discuss this internally and Guenther [Steiner, team principal] will also say something. In my opinion, on our side, we didn‘t do anything wrong.” concluded the Haas driver.

We didn’t make a step in the afternoon: Sebastian Vettel

Aston Martin were looking like the fourth-best in FP1 and FP2 on Friday. But the 4-time world champion mentioned the team did not take a step forward on Saturday.

“At that stage, not much I can do, but overall we didn’t have the pace. I think when we were on track, we were not quick enough,” said Vettel.

Seb mentioned the reason behind the car’s lack of performance, “For sure, we could have timed the last run a bit better, but overall obviously disappointing. In the practice sessions, it looked okay, but we didn’t make a step in the afternoon.” concluded Vettel.

Bith Haas drivers and Vettel are under investigation for the last corner incident.
