Emma Raducanu Set to Make History in Latest WTA Rankings Update

In the last few months, fans have seen the rise of British teenager Emma Raducanu on the WTA Tour. Since making her debut on the tour in the 2021 Nottingham Open, the 18-year-old hasn’t looked back.

While she impressed on her Grand Slam debut at Wimbledon, Raducanu continues to do so in the ongoing US Open. Her exploits in recent months will see her make a major jump in the next update of the WTA Rankings, while adding a touch of history in the process.

Emma Raducanu to break into the Top 100 for the first time in her career

The Wimbledon Championships proved to be Raducanu’s breakthrough on the WTA Tour. She reached the fourth round of the grass court Grand Slam on the back of three impressive victories. Although she withdrew in between her fourth round match with Ajla Tomljanovic, the Briton won many fans for her efforts.

At the ongoing US Open, the 18-year-old dominated World No. 41 Sara Sorribes Tormo in the third round. With the scoreline reading 6-0, 6-1 in Raducanu’s favor, she punched her ticket to the fourth round in her maiden US Open appearance.

Currently, the Briton ranks #150 in the world. However, her recent run of form brings her 280 ranking points, which sees her gain a massive jump of 50 places. On Monday, September 6, Raducanu will be the new World No. 100, marking her debut appearance in this category.

Along with achieving a new career-best ranking, the Briton will become the second youngest player to achieve the feat. At 18 years of age, she only falls behind Coco Gauff, who achieved the feat in 2019 aged 15.
