WATCH: Lexi Thompson Receives Standing Ovation at Solheim Cup After Match Winning Putt

The 2021 Solheim Cup has had a captivating start at the Inverness Golf Club in Ohio. Team Europe currently leads the event with a score of 6 and a half. However, Team U.S. is just a point behind thanks to their amazing performance in the Sunday morning foursomes. Team U.S. won three out of the four-morning events and made a comeback in the Solheim Cup, partly thanks to an amazing performance from Lexi Thompson.

Meanwhile, on day 1, Team Europe had a brilliant start as they won two four-ball events and three foursome events. And they took a clear lead with a score of five and a half.

Lexi Thompson was paired with Brittany Altmore, while the European team had Charley Hull and Emily Pedersen. However, Lexi and Brittany won the foursome for Team U.S. and won the event with a score of 2&1. Moreover, Lexi Thompson had a tough putt at 17th for a birdie. The green had a significant break from right to left, and judging the line and pace of it was imperative.

However, Lexi read the putt to perfection and drained a tough birdie putt, and won the game on the 17th hole for USA. Lexi and Brittany scored five birdies and maintained their lead, which they took on the 8th hole till the end.

Moreover, apart from this, Team U.S. won two more foursome events on Sunday morning. Danielle Kang and Austin Ernst finished 1-up against Georgia Hall and Madelene Sagstrom. Furthermore, Lizette Salas and Jennifer Kupcho finished 3&1 against Anna Nordqvist and Matilda Castren.

However, Team Europe managed to pull off a victory in the third pairing. Mell Reid and Leona Maguire won convincingly against Nelly Korda and Ally Ewing with a score of 5&4.

Currently, the scoreline for Team U.S. is 5½, while Team Europe is still in the lead with a score of 6½. However, there is still a Sunday four-ball event and a single-stroke play event still remaining. Hence, it is still unclear which team has an advantage as both the teams have an equal chance of winning it from here.
