Mark Hamill tweets his own name to prove a point and this is why we love him

Mark Hamill tweeted his own name just to prove a point and it actually went to plan.
The Star Wars actor, whose roles as Luke Skywalker, The Joker and more have delighted fans for decades, is a good sport on social media and always up for a bit of fun so it’s no surprise he played along with this suggestion on Sunday night.
Pitching an odd but wholesome hypothesis, a Twitter user pondered: ‘@HamillHimself you could just tweet ‘Mark Hamill’ and you’d get thousands of likes. (sic)’
It’s a pretty safe bet but thankfully the 69-year-old star was happy to test out the theory as he quoted tweeted the reply and simply wrote: ‘Mark Hamill’
The post has actually got hundreds of thousands, and as this story goes live the tweet has been liked over 488,000 times and counting.
Mark responded to fans who tested it out for themselves too, as one follower got 1.3k when they simply shared the actors name.
‘I don’t have the force,’ the poor bloke joked, and maybe it simply doesn’t have the same novelty when it’s not backed by Jedi mind tricks.
‘No worries,’ Mark replied. ‘You’re doing just fine without it, David!’
So wholesome – and another fan was clearly loving everything unfolding as they hailed Hamill as a ‘national treasure’.
The actor quipped: ‘That’s what I keep telling my wife.’
Mark’s self awareness is wonderful, and it got summed up after another Twitter user asked if the original tweet was ‘silly’ and he quickly responded: ‘Very’.
Earlier this year, Hamill couldn’t help but react to a viral video showing an adorable dog running scared from Star Wars villain Darth Vader.

In a clip shared on TikTok by @rustymetalcreation, the golden retriever, named Ellie, is glued to the screen watching a scene from 1977 classic from A New Hope but she gets a fright when the Sith Lord steps out for the first time.
She bolted but ended up watching it behind the sofa, and Mark caught wind of the video after it was shared by Rex Chapman on Twitter, and he admitted his character should have taken a similar approach.
He tweeted: ‘Smart dog. I only wish I’d thought of hiding behind the couch when I first met him.’

And in a powerful moment last year, Hamill reached out on Skype to 11-year-old fan Bella Tadlock, who is a double amputee, after she got a bionic arm styled after lovable droid R2-D2.
She crowdfunded for her Hero arm, and the actor, whose alter ego Luke had a bionic arm in the movies after losing it in The Empire Strikes Back, did his bit to give the campaign a boost online and later met with her virtually to see it in action.
‘That is great – that is so fantastic! I’m so happy that you were able to have this happen for you,’ he beamed. ‘Open Bionics is doing such great work, and this is the kind of thing that’s really meaningful to me.’
