Blue’s Clues host Steve addresses grown-up fans 25 years on and no, you’re crying

Blue’s Clues star Steve Burns has addressed the now grown-up fans of the hugely popular Nick Jr show, reflecting on what both he and they have achieved – and it’s all very emotional.
Steve – now 47 years old – donned his famous green striped rugby shirt to mark the 25th anniversary of the educational show, and reminisced about the afternoons viewers would spend helping him figure out Blue the dog’s puzzles.
He said: ‘You remember how, when we were younger, we used to run around and hang out with Blue and find clues and talk to Mr. Salt and freak out about the mail and do all the fun stuff? And then one day, I was like, “Oh hey, guess what? Big news. I’m leaving! This is my brother Joe, he’s your new best friend.” Then I got on a bus and I left, and we didn’t see each other for, like, a really long time. Can we just talk about that?’
Steve left the show in 2002 after nearly six years and was replaced by Donovan Patton, who played Steve’s brother Joe.
He continued: ‘I realise that was kind of abrupt. I just kinda got up and went to college. That was really challenging, by the way, but great because I got to use my mind and take a step at a time, and now I literally am doing many of the things that I wanted to do.
‘And then look at you! And look at all you have done and all you have accomplished in all that time! It’s just so amazing, right?
‘I mean, we started out with clues and now, it’s what? Student loans, and jobs, and families. And some of it has been kind of hard, you know? I know you know. I wanted to tell you that I really couldn’t have done all of that without your help. In fact, all the help that you helped me with when we were younger is still helping me today. Right now. And that’s super cool.’
Steve concluded: ‘I guess I just wanted to say that, after all these years, I never forgot you…ever. And I’m super glad we’re still friends.
‘Thanks for listening. You look great, by the way. Whatever it is you’re doing, it’s working.’
Fans were very emosh about the clip, with one person tweeting: ‘Not Steve being proud of me’ followed by crying emojis.
Basketball star Kevin Durant was even touched by the video, tweeting: ‘Needed this.’
Blue’s Clues started in 1996 and saw animated dog Blue leave a trail of clues and paw prints for Steve and the viewers to figure out her plans for the day.
The show was a huge success, and Steve was plagued by bizarre rumours that he had died, or suffered a drug overdose, when he left after 100 episodes in 2002.

However, he left the show as he was getting older, saying on the special Behind the Clues: 10 Years with Blue: ‘I knew I wasn’t going to be doing children’s television all my life, mostly because I refused to lose my hair on a kid’s TV show, and it was happening, fast.
Steve went on to release three albums and continued acting and presenting, and participated in the casting process for the 2019 reboot Blue’s Clues and You!, helping to choose Broadway star Josh Dela Cruz as its host.
In the UK, Kevin Duala hosted Blue’s Clues on Nick Jr from 1998 until 2003.
