“I’m Not There To Hand You Flowers”- Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce Makes A Statement On Her Track Career

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is a nearing the end of her track and field career at the age of 35. But, you wouldn’t be able to tell that based on her performances and her attitude towards her profession. The Jamaican sprinter recently won the silver in the 100m race in Tokyo and the gold in the 4x100m relay.

Shelly-Ann recently also became the third fastest woman in history, recording a time of 10.60 seconds in the 100m. A remarkable feat, made even more astonishing by her age.

What does Shelly-Ann say about her career?

In one of her recent conversations, she mentioned how she likes to have tensions and arguments with her competitors. Which is, of course, channelized in a constructive way on the field by going up against one another and breaking records. But, she also shared how it is more evident when it comes to male athletes or sportspersons, in general. Renowned  athletes such as Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan and, Bolt have had notorious relationships on the field. On the other hand, Shelly-Ann says, “for us as women, we’re somehow supposed to just stand at the line, look cute and just run, [and] wave. We’re not allowed to express ourselves or show our emotions.

It is important to understand the importance of gender equality in sports. Shelly-Ann is indeed one of the most successful athletes of all time. Using her media influence, she wishes to change people’s perceptions about this topic in particular. To elaborate more, she said, “When I step to the line, I’m not there to hand you flowers and comb your hair. I’m there to win. I’m a competitor.”

With this, it’s clear how passionate she is to break old barriers and call for an imporvement.
