Selena Gomez on group email chain with Hollywood legends Martin Short and Steve Martin after Murders Only In The Building

Selena Gomez said her two co-stars gave her a different perspective on the industry.

Selena Gomez has opened up about working with her Murders Only In The Building co-stars, comedy legends Steve Martin and Martin Short, revealing they still keep in touch despite filming being over.

The former Disney star plays the mysterious Mabel Mora in the Hulu series, one of three true-crime-obsessed neighbours who eventually team up to investigate a suspicious death.

Reflecting on working with the Hollywood icons, Selena, 29, said they ‘immediately made me feel like I was part of a trio.’

She added to People.com: ‘They’re just the best. They are extremely humble and kind, and they just have a different human perspective on life than anyone I’ve ever met.’

Steve and Martin gave her their unique insights as veterans working in Hollywood, and Selena, who hasn’t acted on TV since rocketing to fame as a teen in Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place, says she absorbed everything ‘like a sponge.’

‘I asked them about how life used to be, and it was always so interesting to hear about the industry and what it used to be like,’ Selena explained.

‘I felt like a sponge, just absorbing everything I could. We’re all on a group e-mail chain.’

The series is already a hit with critics, earning rave reviews and a top score on the Rotten Tomatoes review aggregator site.

‘My friend sent me a picture that we got 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and I just freaked out,” she added.  ‘I don’t know if something’s going to be good — I do that all the time, with my music and everything. I just go with my gut, so I’m just so happy that people like it.’

The former teen star first rose to fame at the age of 15 playing the role of Alex Russo in the Disney Channel show Wizards of Waverly Place, which ran from 2007 to 2012.

Pop star Selena recently clarified comments after she said she ‘signed her life away’ to Disney during a press panel for Murders Only, saying it was meant as a lighthearted comment which was blown out of proportion in the press.

‘It kind of shaped who I am, in a way,’ she told the Radio Times.

Her co-star also addressed the casual nature of her initial comments in the same interview.

‘I was there when Selena said that and it was said in the most light-hearted, funny, jokey way,’ Steve added.

‘And then I see it gets interpreted – sometimes they’ll say she was joking and sometimes they have it as an ominous headline – but it was completely just all in fun.’
