Top Olympic Dressage Ramoneur 6, Dies Due To Laminitis Post Tokyo Olympic 2020

South Africa’s Tanya Seymour is a professional dressage rider. She started her career at the 2014 World Equestrian Games in Normandy and secured the 20th position. She established a very deep bond with one of the top Olympic dressage horses, Ramoneur 6.

The dressage had been her ride since day one and thus watching him get injured just before the Summer Games in Tokyo was a huge setback for the South African. As the duo withdrew from the competition because of an injury, Ramoneur’s condition was critical. Since Tanya could sense something was “amiss” while practicing, this was perhaps the last event for Ramoneur 6. Recently, the unfortunate news broke that Ramoneur 6 passed away due to Laminitis.

How did Tanya react to Ramonear’s death?

Spending a tremendous amount of time with her ride, Tanya was distraught after Ramoneur being diagnosed with laminitis. Talking to the reporters about Ramenear’s death, she said, “Unfortunately in Tokyo Ramoneur got laminitis, with no previous indications of anything. We brought him home and gave him 200% care but on Monday, suddenly things changed for the worse and I decided it was enough. He did not deserve this at the end of such an amazing career.”

Expressing her grief she added, “We were with him to the end and he passed on in my arms. I will love him and be grateful to him to the end of eternity. They say you have that one special horse in a lifetime and Ramoneur was mine. I’m absolutely heartbroken and devastated… words cannot describe it“.

After partnering for 12 years, losing her companion was the biggest shock to Tanya. Given the fact that she became the first dressage rider to represent South Africa at an Olympic Games hurt her even more. She described him as her “best friend and one true love“. With a heavy heart, she said, “He was with me every step of the way. In Europe, even though I was miles from friends and family, he was always there. Anyone who knew him loved him; he was the most kind, loving and generous horse.”

The loss of such incredible dressage is irreplaceable.
