Brooklyn Nets Star Blake Griffin Reveals How He Was ‘Bothered’ About His Non Dunking Stat

Brooklyn Nets’ Blake Griffin made a significant impact right away as he started at center. Not only could he shoot the ball, but he also did a good job spacing the floor. However, he took everyone by shock by doing something he hadn’t in a while.

Blake is former Dunk contest champion. Hence, when he did not have a single dunk in over a year, fans thought he was falling off his peak. But, he took everyone by shock because he scored his first points as a Net with a dunk. While on The Old Man and The Three, he spoke about his non dunking stat.

Blake Griffin was pissed off

Before joining the Nets, a crazy stat came out over Griffin. The stat said that Blake had not had a dunk in 464 days. For fans, this came as an absolute shock, but Griffin explained it really well. He spoke about how they decided to take the stats in days rather than games.

“It bothered me a little bit.”

Blake said: “It bothered me a little bit. Because the stat was he hasn’t dunked in 400 and something days.” When Reddick took note that he didn’t take part in the bubble, the Brooklyn Nets star replied:

“I also had surgery in January. I played my last game with the Pistons before the pandemic hit in like December 20th something like that…28th of 2019. And then we didn’t go to the bubble. So I didn’t play again till December 24th of 2020. There was like he hasn’t dunked in over a year, I was like I haven’t played in over a year. But, yeah I played those 19 games with the Pistons where I didn’t dunk. That just pissed me off because it’s just like you guys know the stat, you just choosing to be like ‘let’s do days instead of games’.”

This clears up a lot because the stat doesn’t seem as bad when put in terms of games. However, when and how did Blake Griffin break the streak?

Brooklyn Nets changed Blake?

Blake became one of the popular free agents to sign Brooklyn last season. However, since he hasn’t dunked, fans did not expect a lot from the forward. However, if only they knew what he had in store for them.

In his debut for the Brooklyn Nets, he suited up against Washington. Griffin started the game strong with great defensive efforts. But, in the 4th quarter, he would take everyone by shock as he went on to score a sunk. This was the first time anyone had seen him dunk since 2019.

Likewise, his team was charged up after the dunk. He finished the game with 2 points, 2 rebounds and 1 block in 15 minutes.
