“Match Turned Around Completely”: Daniil Medvedev Reflects on Semifinal Win Over Felix Auger Aliassime at US Open 2021

Russian tennis powerhouse Daniil Medvedev has been a man on a mission at the US Open 2021. The World No. 2 player has been in sensational form over the past few weeks. Today was yet another day in which the 25-year-old cruised over the finishing line.

After winning his semifinal match, Daniil Medvedev reflected on the events during the match. He cruised through the first set but Felix Auger Aliassime had a chance of leveling things up when he was sitting on a healthy lead in the second set. However, the Russian sensed an opening and fought back to eventually claim the second set.

The 2021 US Open finalist spoke on the match and stated, “Ya I mean strange match a little bit in the second set where I think everybody felt like it’s going to be one set all and you never know where the match is going to go. I managed to save the setpoints he missed. One volley I made, one good point, and the match turned around completely. I’m just really happy. I don’t think I played my best tennis today.”

Daniil Medvedev has had a good hardcourt season

Reflecting on his season so far, Daniil was the finalist at the Australian Open. After that, he managed to reach the quarterfinal of the French Open, which was his best result in Paris. He came as far as the fourth round at the Wimbledon Championships.

At the moment, he is having a great run on the North American hardcourt Tour. He was a finalist in 2019 but lost to Rafael Nadal in a close contest. We wish him the best of luck for his match on Sunday.
